Köln

Ramona crisstea-kolnDetails

I had a wonderful experience that day, full of unique events and the memories will always stay with me. It was one of those moments when I let myself carried away and I was less active at taking photos. I left my mind do the pictures and I can’t wait to return in Köln, Germany, to make new memories.

I am curios to know what do you do when you visit so many places in such a short amount of time. This short vacation, I was overwhelmed by all the new places and details so I left myself carried away. When I got home I realized that I hadn’t taken so many photos but I wasn’t sorry. Do you usually take a lot of photos or only mental images?

Me and my boyfriend, as photographers we used to take many pictures everywhere we visited something. However, we realized that we missed some details and that a real experience with beautiful memories is made only living and admiring the surroundings through your own eyes.

We must learn not to get lost in photos and understand that the memories created with our own mind are more valuable.

  1. It’s a fair comment you make about the balance between taking photos and just allowing yourself to really ‘be’ in the moment. A beautiful photo tells an emotional story but when you’re in photographer mode you miss so much…I think being aware of it enables you to make the decision to sometimes leave the camera behind and be free.

  2. Greetings,
I totally agree with your statement that we should not get lost in photos, but enjoy the moment, fully present in mind and body.
    You’re lovely in these photos!

  3. There are times when you simply must allow yourself to be overwhelmed by the sights and by the history of the places you visit. Other times you take lots of pictures so that you can look back and get more details that you might have missed the first time around.

  4. Koln is one of those fabulous cathedral cities of Germany that I must visit, when on my extended journey, five years hence. I look back on my last visit to Europe, two years ago, and while I regret lost photographs of Metz, Strasbourg, Frankfurt and Gera, it is the human friendships made in those cities that will last forever.

  6. I feel the same. As a documenter one easily goes into the role of hunting for good photo motives; it puts one a bit on the outside of the experience, more into observer role than experiencer role.
If I do make photos I tend to look for unusual pespectives and scenes, which can be very fun, too, but the above point still stands.
